HYPR has become the latest biometric authentication specialist to join the Microsoft Intelligent Security Association (or “MISA”), a cybersecurity-focused consortium.
The development means that Microsoft customers will be able to take advantage of HYPR’s True Passwordless MFA platform, which revolves around the use of end users’ own personal devices for authentication. Devices supporting fingerprint or facial recognition capabilities can be used to enable biometric authentication, offering an approach to authentication that is much more secure than traditional username and password combinations.
This functionality extends to Microsoft Azure Active Directory, enabling end users to take advantage of HYPR True Passwordless MFA for Single Sign-On across a number of apps supporting Azure AD, including Microsoft 365.
“HYPR has long had the belief that passwords are archaic, costly, plagued with risk and undoubtedly the weakest link in many corporate security protocols and strategies,” explained HYPR VP of Strategic Alliances George Muldoon. “Joining MISA only solidifies our vision to eliminate the password, accelerate the cloud journey of our customers, while protecting their organization against vulnerabilities.”
Muldoon went on to add that the company is excited to “benefit from the knowledge and resources shared by the other members of the association.” Among the other MISA members are ForgeRock, which joined at the end of last summer, and Feitian, which became a MISA member in the summer of 2019.
HYPR’s MISA membership should complement other efforts to raise the company’s stature in the authentication industry, including its membership on the FIDO Alliance’s Board of Directors, and its more recent launch of a channel partner program. The company also raised $35 million in a Series C funding round earlier this year.
