Hyosung now offers support for palm vein authentication. The ATM manufacturer has integrated Fujitsu’s PalmSecure into its MX8200QTN, MX8200QT, and MX8800 self-service devices in addition to its 7800 series and 8300 series ATMs, which means that end users can now verify their identities with a palm scan rather than a PIN to authorize their transactions.
“Our goal is to continually improve our product by applying real solutions that work. Fujitsu PalmSecure technology provides the security, reliability and innovation that has made us a world leader in the ATM marketplace,” said Hyosung America CEO Hee-Eun Ahn.
The PalmSecure sensor is able to capture the palm vein patterns of new users and convert the information into a secure biometric template. That same sensor can then match future scans against that template to grant users access to their accounts. The system can detect vein patterns in other parts of the body if the user cannot use their palm, though that individual would need to consistently scan the same area if they choose to go that route.
The contactless solution is both more hygienic and more secure than more conventional, touch-based alternatives like PIN pads. It also reflects the growing interest in biometric authentication in the financial services industry. Biometric technology has appeared in several new ATMs in the past few years, while Fujitsu itself has promoted the FinTech applications of its palm biometrics technology.
