Hungary’s national IT services provider, NISZ Nemzeti Infokommunikációs Szolgáltató Zrt., has launched a tender for seven portable biometric data capture devices. The procurement specifies equipment equivalent to the Chameleon 5R Dual model, with submissions due by February 14, 2025, at 10:00 AM UTC+1.
The procurement initiative requires devices capable of capturing and processing biometric data according to specified technical standards. The Chameleon 5R Dual specifications include both fingerprint and facial capture capabilities, with compatibility requirements matching European Union standards for biometric data collection. While the exact deployment purpose remains unspecified, the portable nature of the devices suggests potential applications in law enforcement, border control, or civil registration scenarios – similar to recent implementations across other EU member states.
Technical requirements detailed in the procurement documents establish compatibility standards for integration with existing systems, including adherence to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) biometric data interchange formats. The selection process will prioritize the lowest net price in Hungarian Forints as the primary criterion for vendor selection. The chosen supplier will have a 90-day window to fulfill the contract requirements.
Vendor submissions must be made through Hungary’s Electronic Public Procurement System (EKR). The tender welcomes international participants and SMEs, operating under Government Procurement Agreement (GPA) guidelines, following similar procurement frameworks recently used in other European biometric initiatives. Qualifying suppliers must demonstrate experience in delivering at least five comparable biometric devices within the previous three years.
The initiative forms part of Hungary’s broader strategy to enhance its identity management infrastructure, aligning with European Union directives on digital identity and border security. Similar deployments of portable biometric devices across European nations have supported various public service applications, from security operations to population registration.
