Huawei has retooled its airport ICT solution and is showcasing it at this week’s CEBIT 2018 exhibition in Germany. Dubbed Smart Airport 2.0, the solution focuses on linking video surveillance, data analytics, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things to improve efficiency at airports.
As Huawei explains it, the advantages of this platform are manifold and subtle, from improving the efficiency of navigation lights to reducing the rate of false alarms from automated sensors by applying intelligent video surveillance. But one concrete and impactful feature of Smart Airport 2.0 is its use of biometric identification, with facial recognition allowing passengers to rapidly move from security screening to boarding.
It’s an approach that is rapidly gaining popularity around the world, with airports and travel industry stakeholders looking to automated biometric passenger processing as a means of coping with growing passenger volumes while border authorities see compelling security advantages in biometric border screening.
But the biometric component of Huawei’s airport platform can be used to improve the passenger experience in other ways, too. As the company explains in a statement announcing the new solution, “By simply presenting their faces, passenger flight information and boarding gate navigation maps are automatically shown on the flight information display screens.” This more comprehensive approach to biometric passenger assistance could help Huawei to differentiate its Smart Airport 2.0 platform from other rivals in the growing airport biometrics market.
Huawei is showcasing its new solution from Area C01 in Hall 13 of the Hannover Exhibition Center for CEBIT 2018, which runs until Friday.
