The new Huawei Mate 9 Pro features the same under-glass fingerprint sensor model as the recenly released Mate 9 Porsche Design.
Huawei has launched another version of its Huawei Mate 9 smartphone, bringing the sleek design of the Mate 9 Porsche Design to a lower price range. And that includes an under-glass fingerprint sensor from Fingerprint Cards.
While the standard version of the Mate 9 features an essentially standard fingerprint scanning setup, the Mate 9 Porsche Design represented something of a milestone for FPC, as it featured the first under-glass integration of an FPC sensor. The newly announced Mate 9 Pro features the same sensor model, an FPC1268, and once again brings it under the cover glass of the device’s front face.
It’s a significant development because the Mate 9 Pro is considerably less expensive than the Mate 9 Porsche Design, whose luxury branding pushed its price a little above $1500. Now available for order in China, the Mate 9 Pro is in the $686 – $775 price range, depending on storage options.
In other words, it demonstrates that an under-glass integration can be achieved without substantial added costs, and further signals the way forward to the kind of in-display fingerprint sensors toward which many OEMs are now striving.
