HoverPunch Announces Contactless Biometric Time Clock

In the response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the heightened concern over the spread of germs via commonly touched surfaces, Florida-based HoverPunch has announced the launch of its new contactless biometric time clock.

HoverPunch works by having users wave their hand over a biometric palm vein scanner in order to clock in and out, and eliminates the need to come into contact with any shared surfaces, which has the potential to mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

In addition to allowing employees to authenticate via their palm vein pattern, HoverPunch includes software that can enable an enterprise to review, modify, and export biometric data, or even integrate it with an existing HRIS platform.

The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated what was already a rapidly growing contactless biometrics market, with a recent report predicting the palm vein scanner market itself could rise to be worth $1.15 billion by the year 2025.

To some extent, the growth in contactless biometrics as a whole has come at the expense of contact-based modalities, such as shared fingerprint sensors. In March of 2020, as the pandemic was in its early days, a number of government authorities in India moved to restrict the use of fingerprint-based biometric systems amid fears of spreading the virus.
