Apple Pay launched in Hong Kong yesterday, mere hours after it went live in France.
The mobile payments service arrives in Hong Kong with the support of Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and domestic banks Bank of China, DBS, Hang Seng Bank, HSBC, and Standard Chartered. The service also launches with the support of 40 major retailers in the country and, as AppleInsider notes, the prevalence of NFC readers at payment terminals throughout the country should help to ensure that Apple Pay is supported at multiple smaller businesses, too.
During last month’s WWDC developers’ conference, Apple announced that its mPayment platform would soon come to France, Hong Kong, and Switzerland. It followed through, with the service making its Swiss launch near the start of July.
Apple Pay is the first of the major mPayment platforms to launch in Hong Kong, but it’s fair to expect that Samsung Pay and Android Pay are working to follow suit.
