HID’s Biometric Tech Used to Authenticate Driver’s License Applicants in Singapore

Singaporean authorities are taking advantage of biometric technology from HID Global to verify the identities of driver’s license applicants.

HID Global says its Lumidigm V-series fingerprint sensor has been deployed by the Singapore Police Force at the country’s three driving schools. The deployments allow for biometric matching against identity documents such as the National Registration Identity Card and work permits, speeding up the previous paper-based enrollment process.

HID Global’s Lumidigm sensors are notable for their use of HID’s multispectral imaging technology, which captures details from both a fingerprint’s surface and its subsurface, enabling liveness detection and allowing for fingerprint scanning even in wet and dirty conditions.

The deployments were facilitated by HID Global’s partner, Secur Solutions Group, and the company says they are now helping to enroll 500 to 700 driver’s license applicants per day, having cut workforce labor by nearly 1,500 hours per month.

In a statement announcing the deployments, Secur Solutions Group CEO Tseng Wun Hsiung praised the performance of HID Global’s technology, and suggested that the deployments’ success may be opening doors to further opportunities. “The HID Lumidigm sensors have outperformed all alternatives with respect to speed, accuracy and consistency of image acquisition regardless of finger or environmental conditions,” he said. “New opportunities are being considered for service enhancement and parts of the eKYC system are being evaluated for integration.”

News of the deployments comes after HID Global’s publication of a White Paper detailing the advantages of biometric authentication near the end of last year.
