HID Global has attained iBeta PAD Level 1 compliance with its TouchChip TC capacitive fingerprint sensor technology, the company has announced.
It’s a testament to the technology’s ability to detect presentation attacks – also known as ‘spoofing’ attacks – in which genuine biometric credentials are mimicked in an attempt to fool an authentication system.
iBeta’s Presentation Attack Detection evaluation program puts subjects through a battery of spoofing attacks. The third party quality testing firm has become especially well-known for its face biometrics PAD testing as concerns about the reliability of facial recognition solutions have grown in recent years; but fingerprints can also be subject to spoofing attacks. iBeta’s PAD testing is conducted in accordance with the ISO/IEC 30107-3 international standard.
HID Global’s success in attaining Level 1 compliance for its TouchChip TC fingerprint sensor technology demonstrates that it resisted all spoofing attempts in iBeta’s evaluation program – a success rate of 100 percent against 360 presentation attacks comprising six different types of attacks. Testing was undertaken on the EikonTouch Model TC510-A3 and an associated TCS PAD Emulator v0.05 Windows 10 application.
“This Level 1 ISO PAD designation from iBeta confirms the diligence and purposeful security efforts our engineers built into the TouchChip product family to deliver trustworthy authentication across banking, government, healthcare, legal, retail and other industries where fingerprint verification drives efficiencies and prevents fraud,” explained Vito Fabbrizio, the Managing Director of HID Global’s Extended Access Technologies Biometrics Business Unit.
HID’s iBeta announcement arrives on the heels of the news that the company has added biometrics to its Signo line of access control readers. The new HID Signo Biometric Reader 25B features a HID Global fingerprint sensor, enabling access control based on biometric authentication.
