HID Global has announced it will be showcasing a number of healthcare security offerings at this year’s HIMSS Annual Conference & Exhibition in Chicago next week. The company will place a particular focus on its newest solution, ActivID Tap Authentication for Microsoft.
That solution is essentially smart card security for accessing Office365 and other cloud- and web-based applications. It lets users use the same smart card they already use for access control to “tap in” on mobile devices and laptops via NFC technology. Given the preponderance of such smart cards among hospital staff everywhere, the applications of this system in healthcare are pretty obvious.
But the company will also be showcasing a range of other solutions, including a cloud-based electronic visit verification platform for home care, DEA-compliant EPCS authentication solutions, OMNIKEY smart card readers, ActivID OTP tokens, and Lumidigm biometric sensors.
HID’s self-promotion in the healthcare market seems a prudent move for the company. Named one of China’s Top 10 Access Control Brands for 2014, HID has strong technology to leverage in expanding markets; and the company has indicated that it sees room for growth in the healthcare sector as our technologies become ever more interconnected. And given that the company recently forged a partnership with a developer of biometric smart cards, it’s no surprise to see it now pushing in the direction of access control in the healthcare sector.
