HID Global has received some prominent recognition in the global security industry: Government Security News (GSN) Magazine has called HID Global’s custom ID solution for the Republic of Angola this year’s Most Notable National ID Card Program in its Airport, Seaport and Border Security Awards report. The award was assigned to HID Global along with partner company DGM Sistemas LDA (DGM), which collaborated closely with HID Global on the solution.
The solution was developed as part of a much broader effort to restore order to Angola after a decades-long civil war. Angola’s Ministry of Justice worked with HID Global and DGM to develop a secure ID solution that could be assigned to citizens quickly and conveniently. Ultimately, the company’s produced a national ID card featuring HID Global’s optical security media technology to secure both biographic and biometric data. These ID cards can be issued at official government facilities or from mobile units in less than an hour, and HID Global also has established a technical support center in the country to help work out any potential issues that might arise. Adrian Courtenay, the head of GSN’s publisher, called the solution “one of the shining stars of this year’s awards”, considered to be “among the top five entries across the entire competition.”
The Angola deployment appears to reflect a broader commitment on the part of HID Global to promote a greater social good beyond its corporate interests, with the company having recently also teamed up with children’s aid charity Mission 500 for events coinciding with the ISC West security conference. Nor is this the first time the company has been recognized for its solutions; late last year A&S China named the company one of China’s Top 10 Access Control Brands for 2014. The company’s technology has broad applications not just across national identification and access control, but in healthcare as well.
