“…while fingerprint authentication is supported, too, with Apple widely expected to make Face ID the standard biometric security system of its forthcoming devices, it’s a timely move on CareCredit’s part.”
CareCredit, the provider of a credit card tailored for healthcare and wellness spending, is taking advantage of biometric security in its mobile app.
The upgraded app allows users to take advantage of Face ID, Apple’s pioneering 3D facial recognition system launched with the iPhone X, for enhanced security. Given that the CareCredit app can be used to pay bills and set up payment alerts, the feature will likely be a welcome addition for CareCredit cardholders concerned about mobile security. And while fingerprint authentication is supported, too, with Apple widely expected to make Face ID the standard biometric security system of its forthcoming devices, it’s a timely move on CareCredit’s part.
More broadly, the upgraded app plays on other important trends, including the rise of mobile wallets and the increasing use of smartphones for all kinds of everyday transactions in general. Consumers “are increasingly expecting personalized and convenient experiences through all channels,” explained CareCredit CEO Fave Fasoli in a statement announcing the app upgrade. “We know that financing is an important factor for patients considering healthcare decisions, and these enhancements to our mobile app provide CareCredit cardholders a useful and accessible tool to help make those important financial decisions faster and easier.”
The CareCredit app is available from Apple’s App Store, and also through Google Play, supporting authentication via username and password as an alternative login mechanism.
