Hawaii to Use CLEAR’s Health Pass to Help Screen Incoming Travelers

The State of Hawaii will be using CLEAR’s Health Pass screening solution to boost its travel industry during the COVID-19 pandemic. The app will allow users to forego the mandatory 10-day quarantine that is currently required for all visitors under the state’s Safe Travels Program.

With Health Pass, users can upload the results of a negative COVID-19 test, and then share that result to prove their health status without disclosing any other personal information. Hawaii will allow travelers to skip the quarantine as long as they have a negative test that was completed within 72 hours of their departure.

Hawaii will begin offering Health Pass service on February 18, though it will initially only be available on select United and Delta airlines flights from Los Angeles International Airport to Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu. Passengers will be asked to present their test results at the boarding gate, and those that pass the inspection will be given a CLEAR wristband that allows them to bypass the entry examination when they get to Hawaii.

Health Pass can be used to share immunization status in addition to test results, and will increase the number of testing options available to those interested in going to Hawaii. The state is hoping that the app will minimize the number of people in quarantine, allowing tourists to support local businesses without jeopardizing their safety.

“Safe travel is important for our residents and visitors, and this pilot program is another step forward in achieving this goal,” said Hawaii Governor David Y. Ige. “I thank CLEAR and its airline partners who are working together to provide a convenient pre-travel testing option for both returning residents and those who are coming to Hawaii for work or vacation.”

Health Pass is compatible with LabCorp and Quest Diagnostics test results. CLEAR is currently providing Health Pass service for more than 35 organizations, including the LA Football Club and the NHL. Hawaii, meanwhile, has partnered with NEC to bring contactless face and temperature screening technology to its airports to expedite the travel process.
