Vienna-based A-Trust has integrated facial recognition technology from Nürnberg-based biometrics specialist BioID into its Handy-Signatur mobile app.
The app is designed to offer a digital signature that can be used as a legal proxy for an actual signature. Now, with the integration of BioID’s facial recognition, which has previously been offered through BioID’s own mobile app, it pairs the user’s mobile device with the user’s face to ensure greater security.
In joining forces in this way, the companies are aiming to target the broader EU market as it adjusts to new electronic identification and transaction trust regulations introduced this past summer. That will start with the companies’ most direct market, with BioID CEO Ho Chang commenting in a statement that A-Trust’s experience in security technology “helps to further strengthen our position in the German-speaking market.”
The upgraded Handy-Signatur app is available for iOS, and the companies say an Android version is in the works for release later this year.
