Gunnebo Strengthens Position in Airport Biometrics Market with KAC Order

Swedish access security specialist Gunnebo is strengthening its presence in the airport biometrics market, with the announcement that it has won an order for biometric eGates from Korea Airport Corporation.

The latter operates 14 airports in South Korea. It isn’t yet clear how many of those airports will receive biometric eGates from Gunnebo and its domestic partner BZ System, with Gunnebo having revealed few specific details about the project in announcing its contract win. But the company’s statement indicated that KAC will involve “biometric identification technology for passenger validation,” and noted that Gunnebo delivered automates gates with facial recognition cameras to airports in France, Malaysia, and Oman earlier this year.

The company also indicated that it expects more such contracts to come in the future, with Entrance Control VP Robert Hermans asserting, “The business for Korea Airport Corporation is another major milestone for our development in airport solutions in the Asia Pacific region, as this gives Gunnebo a strong reference to lean on for numerous upcoming projects.”

The contract fits neatly within a larger trend as biometric passenger processing technology continues to be embraced by airports, airlines, and border control authorities around the world.
