Guinea Uses MOSIP and TECH5 Technology in New National ID Program

The government of Guinea is using TECH5’s Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) to power its new National ID program. The digital IDs were built using the open-source MOSIP identity management platform, which was designed with an eye toward the public sector and makes it easier for governments to distribute various goods and services.

TECH5’s T5-ABIS solution will provide Guinea with enrollment, identification, and de-duplication capabilities. The platform offers support for face, fingerprint, and iris recognition, and can perform capture and follow-up authentication with all three modalities. The quality of each image will be assessed during registration, while the one-to-one authentication system will accurately match a new image to the one previously recorded.

Guinea citizens will be able to use their digital IDs to prove their identity when they try to access public services like healthcare, education, and social security. The IDs could also be presented for certain utilities in the private sector. TECH5’s technology will allow the country to issue a unique ID to each individual, and ensure that each person only has one ID.

TECH5 was the first ABIS vendor to integrate its technology with the MOSIP platform back in August of 2019. The current rollout represents the first phase of Guinea’s National ID project, and should give Guinea civilians more control over their personal information.

“TECH5 and MOSIP support staff have assisted us since the start of implementation ensuring on-time operational readiness while ensuring knowledge transfer to our local technical teams,” said Ibrahima Sory Conde, a consultant with WURI Guinea, which commissioned the project.

“Our commitment to MOSIP has always been very strong,” added TECH5 Co-Founder, Chairman, and CTO Rahul Parthe. “The partnership is now delivering real value in the Guinea National ID project which will form the model that other countries on the African continent and beyond can readily take for their respective National ID requirements.”

TECH5 has previously provided contactless fingerprint identification technology for TrueID in South Africa. The company has since partnered with ID2020, and brought in an additional $8 million in investment funding from Yinda Infocomm.
