Green Bit Officially Announces New MiScan50 Device

Green Bit has officially announced its new MiScan50, the first in a new line of thin-film transistor fingerprint scanners from the company.

The device’s scanner offers a surface area of 3.2″ by 2″, and is only 15.5mm thick. It’s also “FAP 50 certifiable”, according to a statement from the company; and its software architecture is based on Green Bit’s MultiScan SDK, which supports Windows, Linux Ubuntu, and Linux Fedora operating systems.

In announcing the new device, Green Bit asserted that it’s aiming to deliver the solution to market in Q4 of this year, promising that “an OEM version will also be available and suitable for embedding into virtually any device including even small hand-held devices.” And the company says that a MiScan device that can scan two fingers is also being planned.

The new product line’s official announcement comes soon after Green Bit’s big wins in the IARPA N2N Challenge, which attested to the effectiveness of the company’s biometric technology. As such, Green Bit should be able to garner some significant attention as it showcases the MiScan50 at next week’s Connect:ID exhibition, where Green Bit says it will have the device’s first functional prototype on hand.
