Goodix and Samsung have introduced new fingerprint registration methods aimed at improving user convenience and enhancing security on their latest devices.
Goodix, a maker of biometric sensors, has developed a “sliding enrollment” feature for in-display fingerprint sensors, starting with the Iqoo Neo 9s Pro Plus. This method allows users to register their fingerprints by smoothly sliding their finger across the sensor, instead of repeatedly lifting and tapping.
This approach, which gives the impression of massaging the screen, simplifies the fingerprint registration process and offers a more intuitive user experience. Goodix’s ultrasonic under-display fingerprint sensor, first seen in the vivo X100 Ultra, incorporates this new technology, though the company is in talks to bring this feature to more flagship phones later this year, although no official agreements have been confirmed yet.
Meanwhile, Samsung has made advancements with the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which debuted at the recent Galaxy Unpacked event.
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 now allows users to enroll fingerprints while the device is closed, by pressing their finger on the side sensor, whereas previously, users had to unfold the device to register a fingerprint. This change, first reported by 9to5Google, simplifies the enrollment process, and Samsung has also updated the enrollment progress animation to guide users to the side button, indicating the sensor’s location with a green nub and providing feedback through vibration.
The new enrollment method has also been made available on the Galaxy Z Fold 5 through a software update, extending the convenience to users of the previous model. However, some users have reported encountering a software bug during the initial fingerprint setup on the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
