Another pair of smartphones from Gionee are using Fingerprint Cards fingerprint sensors.
The Gionee M6 and M6 plus are sequels to the China-based OEM’s M5 Plus and M5 Enjoy devices, and feature the same sensor model—an FPC1145. Gionee also used another FPC sensor model, the FPC1025, in its recent Gionee W909 smartphone.
For FPC, the integrations point to another important relationship with a repeat customer in the smartphone market, with others including Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi. The customers are a driving force for FPC’s rising revenues, as illustrated in the company’s new Q2 report.
FPC’s relationship with Gionee also reflects the broader excitement about mobile biometrics, with a recent market report predicting that in 2018 all smartphones shipped will feature fingerprint sensors.
