German Authorities Approve Trulioo Solution for Online Age Gating

Vancouver-based identity verification specialist Trulioo has announced that the Commission for the Protection of Minors in the Media — known in Germany as the Kommission für Jugendmedienschutz (KJM) — has approved its GlobalGateway solution for use in helping to protect minors in the country from age-restricted content by enforcing age-verification checks in order to access certain content.

In the build up to the announcement, KJM tests and assessments concluded that Trulioo’s GlobalGateway identity verification solution is compliant with the legal and technical requirements laid out by the Interstate Treaty on the Protection of Minors in the Media (JMStV).

“Trulioo’s age verification solution provides a straightforward and seamless user experience for age-appropriate users while ensuring minors don’t engage in potentially harmful content,” said Steve Munford, Trulioo CEO. “By turning to Trulioo’s solutions, media providers and businesses can perform age checks that adhere to compliance measures while upholding a privacy-centric approach in handling this sensitive data.”

GlobalGateway allows for the verification of a person’s age in real time with secure access to more than 400 reliable data sources, and gives users the flexibility to set their own desired age parameters to ensure that only age-appropriate visitors are able to access certain content.

This is the latest announcement in what has been a very busy year for Trulioo, perhaps best highlighted by its entry into the ‘tech unicorn’ club following a $394 million Series D funding round that brought its valuation to a staggering $1.75 billion.

Shortly after that announcement, Trulioo revealed that it was bringing the GlobalGateway platform to Kenya’s 54.3 million residents, effectively granting them access to remote onboarding and identity verification using face and document recognition technology.
