The Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) has expanded its Digital Driver’s License and ID Program by integrating with Samsung Wallet, providing a new digital identification option for residents with Samsung Galaxy devices. The implementation leverages Samsung’s Knox security platform, which provides dedicated hardware-level protection for storing and processing biometric credentials.
The integration allows Georgia residents to securely store their driver’s license or state ID in Samsung Wallet, with verification enabled through biometric authentication or PIN entry. According to DDS Commissioner Spencer R. Moore, this expansion aligns with the department’s broader digital transformation initiatives while maintaining compliance with federal identity verification standards.
Currently, the digital IDs are accepted at select Transportation Security Administration (TSA) PreCheck security checkpoints, including Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, where biometric verification systems are being expanded. The TSA has recently confirmed continued acceptance of mobile driver’s licenses beyond the REAL ID enforcement date in May 2025.
The enrollment process requires users to scan their physical ID, complete a facial biometric verification, and set up secure authentication methods. This multi-factor approach mirrors protocols established in other states’ digital ID programs, such as Missouri’s recent implementation. DDS emphasizes that the digital ID option is voluntary and complementary to physical credentials, which remain mandatory for law enforcement interactions.
