Gemalto, Fingerprint Cards (FPC), Precise Biometrics, and STMicroelectronics have teamed up to produce an end-to-end security architecture for fingerprint authentication. The companies are showcasing their solution at this year’s Mobile World Congress.
It’s meant to offer OEMs a means of easily integrating fingerprint biometric authentication into their devices. The solution uses FPC’s low-power touch sensors; Precise Biometrics’ Precise BioMatch Embedded biometric algorithm software; STMicroelectronics’ microcontroller, NFC, and embedded Secure Element technology; and Gemalto’s UpTeq eSE system for credential data storage, as well its Match-On-Card system for validation. And it’s based on FIDO Alliance specifications, ensuring a strong baseline of security with respect to user data.
In other words, it’s a highly secure, comprehensive fingerprint scanning solution for OEMs. At MWC, the companies are showing it off via a smartwatch, but of course it will also have applications in other wearables and mobile devices, too.
