Background screening platform GCheck has announced a partnership with Cerebrum, an identity and credential verification company, to embed biometric identity verification at the start of hiring workflows, a move aimed at combating the growing threat of AI-generated fraud in remote recruitment.
The integration introduces what the companies call a “Verified Entry” point, requiring candidates to complete a real-time biometric check before any background screening begins. The process combines document authenticity analysis, barcode validation, liveness detection, and biometric matching to confirm physical presence and validate government-issued identification, closing what GCheck describes as a critical vulnerability in remote hiring.
According to Gartner, one in four candidate profiles worldwide could be fake by 2028 as AI-generated deepfakes, synthetic identities, and digital injection attacks become more sophisticated. The GCheck-Cerebrum integration is designed to address that threat at the point of entry, ensuring all subsequent background checks are conducted using verified, government-backed identity data. The integration delivers up to 99.9 percent identity data accuracy and improves background check completion times by up to 30 percent by reducing manual entry errors.
“Hiring decisions are only as strong as the identity data behind them,” said Houman Akhavan, Founder and CEO of GCheck. “In an AI-driven world where synthetic identities and digital injections are no longer theoretical risks, we believe trust must be established at the very first touchpoint.”
“It’s not enough to glance at an ID or rely on static checks,” said Sebastian Mellen, CEO of Cerebrum. “You need document authenticity analysis, barcode validation, liveness detection and biometric matching working together. When those safeguards are in place at the very start of the workflow, identity becomes something you can stand on with confidence.”
The partnership builds on a trend of biometric tools entering background screening and staffing markets. Earlier integrations, including authID’s partnership with TurboCheck to combat hiring fraud with biometric verification and Glider AI’s ID Verify tool for hiring fraud prevention, reflect an industry shift toward biometric identity assurance as a baseline for compliant hiring practices.
Cerebrum’s technology has previously been deployed in youth sports, hospital systems, and enterprise environments. GCheck serves enterprise HR teams, healthcare organizations, nonprofits, and regulated industries. The companies say the integration is designed to be transparent to candidates, consistent with what they describe as consent-forward, dignity-first standards.
