The GATX Corporation will be using BIO-key’s PortalGuard solution to simplify password management procedures and reduce administrative costs for its GATX Rail Europe team. GATX is an international railcar leasing company, and decided to expand its use of PortalGuard to meet the logistical demands of a remote work environment during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to BIO-key, GATX Rail Europe transitioned to a remote work model in the early stages of the pandemic. However, that increased IT costs as the Help Desk scrambled to provide support to employees who were working from home for the first time. PortalGuard is expected to eliminate much of that hassle, making it easier to manage passwords and provide strong security across multiple devices.
The news builds on the existing relationship between the two companies. BIO-key has been providing security solutions for GATX since 2004.
“Events this year have substantially accelerated enterprise adoption of the work-from-home model, resulting in widespread security challenges and workflow disruption,” said BIO-key PortalGuard President Mark Cochran. “Expanding our footprint within an existing customer is the strongest possible endorsement of the value and flexibility of our solution.”
BIO-key announced the formal launch of the PortalGuard Identity-as-a-Service offering at the tail end of November, after previously acquiring the platform in June. The company has already delivered PortalGuard to numerous clients, many of which are concentrated in the academic and government sectors.
