Fulcrum to Distribute SBS Fingerprint Tech

International biometrics integrator and distributor Fulcrum Biometrics has signed a deal with Israel-based biometrics developer SMUFS Biometric Solutions (SBS) to distribute the latter’s technology globally. The agreement will see SBS’s FIPS 201/PIV Bluetooth and wireless fingerprint scanners sold by Fulcrum all over the world.

Fulcrum is known for its FbF mobileOne Quickdock for iOS, which allows a fingerprint reader to be attached to Apple devices; what SBS brings to the table is wireless technology, allowing multiple users can scan their fingerprints using Fulcrum’s technology and transmit the biometric data to the iOS device. In this arrangement, both companies win: In a press release, Fulcrum president Ken Nosker said his company had been looking for an undocked scanner to integrate into its system, and “SBS fingerprint scanners fit the bill perfectly,” while SBS CEO Oren Epstein said his company’s “primary focus is on the development of mobile biometric technologies, so we benefit from allowing established distributors like Fulcrum Biometrics to handle the sales and marketing for us.”

It’s not the first time Fulcrum Biometrics has enjoyed a bit of cross-pollination in the industry. Last June, the company signed an agreement to distribute NEXT Biometrics fingerprint sensors in the United States market, and in August Fulcrum announced a joint project with Credence ID to deploy Android-based biometric technology for prison management purposes in Guatemala and Mexico.
