Fujitsu is delving deeper into the world of biometrics, and will be showing off some new offerings at the upcoming National Retail Federation’s (NRF) Annual 2015 Convention & Expo in New York City. In addition to demonstrating its new G750L currency recycler, the company will be showcasing the access control and point of sale retail applications of its vascular palm-scanning technology.
Fujitsu’s PalmEntry reader will be demonstrated as an access control mechanism for safes and doors, especially in the context of cash-handling procedures in a retail environment. Speaking in a press release, Fujitsu VP Randy Fox asserted that the company’s “unique application of biometrics as a method for positive logical and physical access control will be more commonplace at POS and in back-office cash handling locations.”
The company will also be showing off its PalmSecure sensor and its PalmSecure for SSO solution. The technology in both of these relies on active vascular activity for their readings, effectively ruling out the possibility of forgery.
Last year, Fujitsu’s palm-reading technology found its way into airport employee access control applications, and the company proceeded to invest in further R&D in the area of biometric technology; clear signs of confidence in the future of the industry.
