Fujitsu has announced its newest authentication device. Called Stylistic Q736, it’s a tablet featuring the company’s PalmSecure palm vein biometric technology.
In addition to its vascular biometric reading capabilities, the 13.3″ tablet also features NFC technology allowing it to read smart cards, and uses encrypted drives and Intel’s TPM solution for secure data storage. And while such security features are perhaps its most important assets, it’s also designed for usability, with the ability to convert into a notebook via an attachable keyboard, and offering GPS tracking and 4G/LTE connectivity.
In a statement announcing the new device, Fujitsu suggested it has a range of applications, asserting that it “is perfectly suited to vertical industries where it is equally important to ensure that data already on the device is secured – for example, patient records in healthcare, or bank account details in financial services – as well as ensuring only secured access to the tablet itself.”
It’s the latest example of Fujitsu’s efforts to bring to market intuitive devices that feature the company’s palm vein scanning technology, and by combining a convenient biometric scanning capability with standard tablet/notebook design, it could prove appealing to the enterprise market.
