The Zwipe Access solution will soon be appearing in major airports all over the world. To that end, Zwipe has announced a new partnership with Fraport AG, an airport management specialist that currently lists Frankfurt Airport, JFK Airport, and Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi amongst its 31 clients.
Fraport will be installing the Zwipe Access solution at a handful of select security checkpoints before moving forward with a broader rollout of the technology if the trial goes well. The company is searching for a way to use biometrics to link a physical airport ID card to the person using that card to gain access to a secure facility, ultimately settling on Zwipe Access as part of its broader “Biometrics@Controllane” initiative. Zwipe Access is one of two solutions being evaluated for the biometric access project, which started out in Fraport’s Digital Factory.
Zwipe Access cards use built-in fingerprint sensors to verify the identities of card holders at a point of entry. The cards are fully compatible with traditional card readers, so airports can use them to implement two-factor authentication without upgrading their existing hardware. The solution is also contactless, making it a more hygienic option in the wake of COVID-19.
“We are delighted to be selected as finalists in this MVP process for Fraport AG,” said Zwipe CEO André Løvestam. “We look forward to demonstrating the security and excellent user experience of Zwipe Access in this MVP over the course of this summer.”
Baltimore, Newark, Cleveland, and Nashville are some of the other major airports that take advantage of Fraport’s management services. In the meantime, the news reflects Zwipe’s renewed focus on the access control sector. Zwipe Access has been around in some form for several years, though the company only recently announced that it was modifying its flagship biometric payment offering for more dedicated access control applications.
