Fingerprint Cards Announces One More Smartphone Integration Ahead of the Holidays

Fingerprints (FPC) has snuck in at least one more smartphone integration of its biometric technology before the year’s end.

In announcing this latest integration, the company did not name its client, referring to it only as “a major Japanese OEM”. Fingerprint Cards said that the device in question is using an FPC1291 fingerprint sensor including FPC MoveTouch, a feature that enables navigation of the user interface through manipulation of the fingerprint sensor, essentially turning it into a kind of button or miniature trackpad.

“We are very happy and delighted to provide world class biometrics devices for this smartphone model,” the company said.

The FPC1291 is the same sensor model used in the Mi Mix 3 smartphone launched by Xiaomi in late October. This latest integration offers a further indication of the continuing importance of the mobile biometrics market in Fingerprint Cards’ business, even as the company seeks to extend its technology into new market areas including biometric payment cards and automotive components.
