Meizu Sticks with FPC, Precise Biometrics for Meilan Metal

Meizu has once again demonstrated its satisfaction with Fingerprint Cards (FPC) and Precise Biometrics technology with another major smartphone integration.

Meizu’s new Meilan Metal features an FPC1155 sensor, which itself uses Precise Biometrics’ Precise BioMatch Mobile software. Meilan Metal will, as the name suggests, sport a metal chassis, and will run on YunOS, an operating system developed by Alibaba, the company behind Chinese mPayment giant Alipay. And the device will be cheap; its price is expected to be in the $150 – $175 USD range.

That could make it one of the least expensive smartphones to feature a built-in fingerprint sensor, furthering a trend that has seen mobile fingerprint sensors extend their prominence from the upper range of the smartphone spectrum to the middle and now, increasingly at the lower end.

Meizu has also recently integrated FPC sensors into its MX5 smartphone released this summer, and the Pro 5, which launched near the end of September. Both of those devices also used the FPC1155 sensor model. With its latest support, Meizu is helping FPC to retain its prominence as a major sensor supplier to Asia-based OEMs.
