Fingerprint Cards says it has now shipped over a million of its T-Shape FPC1300-series fingerprint sensors to clients in the payment card industry. These include the FPC1321 and FPC1323 fingerprint sensor modules.
In announcing the milestone, FPC’s President of Payment and Access, Michel Roig, said it reinforces Fingerprints’ “position as the leading provider of biometric solutions for payment cards.” The executive added, “I am confident in our ability to defend and further strengthen our market position, and look forward to continuing to innovate and develop products that enhance the security and convenience of biometric cards.”
While the FPC1300-series sensors have been integrated into a number of payment cards, they’ve also been embraced in cards for access control applications, including one that was recently launched by India-based Ambimat Electronics.
While Fingerprint Cards built its name as a leading provider of fingerprint sensors for the mobile sector, the company has aggressively pursued new business areas in recent years, especially after supply chain disruptions severely impeded its mobile biometrics operations last year. Over the past couple of months, FPC has announced partnerships involving the incorporation of its biometric technology into wearables and smart locks.
Fingerprint-scanning cards, an emerging market in which multiple biometrics vendors have been positioning, could afford FPC another such opportunity, and the company already appears to have some momentum in this area.
