Longtime biometric tech partners Fingerprint Cards and Precise Biometrics have deepened their relationship with a new licensing agreement. The deal entails FPC licensing Precise BioMatch Embedded—Precise Biometrics’ algorithm software—for smart card applications.
It’s an expansion from the very strong basis of the companies’ licensing deal for Precise BioMatch Mobile, which has helped to bring FPC sensors to a wide range of smartphones. Indeed, with the help of Precise Biometrics’ algorithm software, FPC has become so successful as a fingerprint sensor supplier to smartphone OEMs that the company has lately been looking to more purposefully expand its presence beyond the smartphone market; and this new licensing deal should help in those efforts.
Commenting in a statement, FPC CEO Jörgen Lantto asserted, “In the coming years, smart cards and other new markets will contribute to a significant growth of the market for fingerprint sensors,” adding, “Our ambition is to take the leading position within these new areas in the same way as we did within smartphones.”
And it’s a win-win proposition, of course: The deal will see royalty revenues funneled to Precise Biometrics as FPC sells sensors running on Precise BioMatch Embedded to interested OEMs, and reaffirms Precise Biometrics’ interest in pursuing the smart card market. “The expanded agreement with Fingerprint Cards – the largest sensor manufacturer – confirms our position as the leading supplier of fingerprint software and opens up interesting growth opportunities within smart cards,” said Precise Biometrics CEO Håkan Persson.
