Fingerprint Cards AB (Fingerprints) and IN Groupe, through its SPS brand, have announced the launch of a secure component solution for contactless biometric payment cards. The partnership aims to support global card manufacturers in scaling up the production of next-generation biometric payment cards, aligning with the growing consumer preference for contactless payments.
The global market for biometric payment cards is expected to rise significantly in the coming years. To facilitate mass adoption, Fingerprints and IN Groupe first partnered in November of 2023 to simplify the manufacturing process, enhancing reliability and reducing costs. With the SPS brand of IN Groupe, these next-generation biometric cards are now ready for widespread global distribution.
“Our ongoing collaboration with IN Groupe and its SPS brand supports the global adoption of secure, convenient, and high-quality biometric payment cards,” said Adam Philpott, CEO of Fingerprints. “The launch of these cards into the market reinforces Fingerprints’ position as the world leader in biometrics and our commitment to providing innovative solutions that improve daily life.”
The biometric cards incorporate Fingerprints’ second-generation T-Shape (T2) sensor module and software platform, featuring ultra-low power consumption and leading biometric performance. The technology is based on STMicroelectronics’ STPay-Topaz-Bio solution. In 2023, Fingerprints reached a milestone of one million sensors shipped specifically for biometric payment cards, demonstrating the robustness and reliability of the technology.
“As a company rooted in innovation, we are pleased to expand our product offering with Fingerprints’ next-generation biometric technology,” Jean-Baptiste Leos, Product Director for SPS Banking Products at IN Groupe said. “This advancement helps us continue to innovate and offer secure and cost-effective biometric solutions to our customers. Technical support around card construction, milling and embedding, and certification will be key priorities for product deployment in the coming quarters.”
