Huawei’s latest Android tablet will be the company’s first tablet to feature a fingerprint sensor, and that sensor is from Fingerprint Cards. FPC announced that its FPC1155 module has been integrated into the MediaPad M2.
The product was announced at this week’s Consumer Electronics Show, and further expands the reach of FPC fingerprint sensors, which are already proliferating among smartphones but less so in tablets. Commenting on the integration in a statement, FPC CEO Jörgen Lantto said FPC is “proud that Huawei selected FPC1155 for MediaPad M2,” adding that the sensor “supports 360 degree finger rotation capability, fast response time and industry leading 3D image quality.”
Lantto also pointed out that Huawei has so far launched ten smartphones featuring FPC sensors. Indeed, the China-based company has proven to be one of FPC’s most reliable customers, with its Honor 5X and Mate 8 smartphones being among the most recent to integrate FPC technology.
It’s a relationship that has helped to make FPC one of the leading suppliers of fingerprint sensors to smartphone OEMs, with the company now looking to expand its reach into other markets as the overall biometrics market continues to grow.
