Fingerprint Cards has announced that it has received a volume order for “several hundred thousand” T-Shape fingerprint sensor modules from Sentry Enterprises, a US-based access control specialist.
The modules will be integrated into Sentry’s SentryCard access card, which will allow end users to authenticate via fingerprint scan, in addition to using the card itself for secure access. It’s essentially the same proposition underlying biometric payment cards – another area of interest for Fingerprint Cards – which allows end users to confirm that they are the legitimate cardholder during a transaction.
The T-Shape solution can, of course, support both applications. And with respect to the access control application, Sentry Enterprises is now a repeat customer; the company placed a volume order for the T-Shape last year, and also signed a global licensing agreement for Fingerprint Cards’ FPC-BEP software platform.
“The biometric technology from Fingerprints is cutting edge in terms of performance and end-to-end solution,” explained Sentry Enterprises CEO Mark Bennett. “We are very pleased with our close collaboration with Fingerprints in striving to deliver seamless, proof-positive identification to enterprises for their access needs.”
The repeat order offers further validation to FPC management’s intensifying focus on biometric access control as a new growth area for the company, which built its name on the mobile biometrics boom of the past decade. Access control was highlighted alongside payment cards and the automotive and healthcare sectors as important new frontiers in the company’s most recent fiscal update.
“We are very pleased with this order, which is testimony to the strength of our offering and the demand for biometric solutions on the Access Control market,” said FPC Payment & Access SVP Michel Roig, adding later, “We see a continued growth in this segment, providing a smart way to add secure, convenient, and hygienic authentication to physical as well as logical access.”
