“The partnership’s announcement comes immediately after FPC’s announcement of its Q4 and year-end results.”
Fingerprint Cards has established a new partnership aimed at strengthening its position in the automotive sector.
In a short statement announcing its partnership with Altran, FPC said it will offer its fingerprint and iris recognition technologies to the company for “a wide range of different use cases in automotive vehicles,” highlighting “[p]ersonalization, access control and payments” as “some examples where biometrics gives a simple and secure identification in automotive applications.”
Founded in 1982, Altran describes itself as an engineering and R&D services firm operating across a range of industries including aeronautics, defense, transportation, energy, electronics, life sciences, telecommunications, and financial services, as well as the automotive sector. The company is headquarted in Paris, but has a workforce of 30,000 across over 20 countries.
The partnership’s announcement comes immediately after FPC’s announcement of its Q4 and year-end results. The corporate update outlined escalating competitive pressures in FPC’s core business of mobile fingerprint sensors, but asserted that the company is taking aggressive maneuvers to expand into new areas including biometric payment cards and the increasingly IT-infused automotive sector.
