Digital onboarding specialist Jumio has a new Chief Product Officer.
Bala Kumar comes to the company after working several years for TransUnion, the consumer credit reporting organization. Starting off as a Senior Product Manager, Kumar ultimately became the company’s Global Vice President of Products, Fraud & Identity Solutions. He also served as the Chief Product Officer at iovation after the firm was acquired by TransUnion in 2018.
Before all of that, Kumar started his career as a member of Oracle’s technical staff in 1999, and he also worked as a principal consultant for Jaypar, Inc. from 2000 to 2003. Kumar has his Masters in Computer Applications from the National Institute of Technology Karnataka.
In a statement announcing his appointment with Jumio, the company highlighted his “deep subject matter expertise in digital identity and fraud prevention”, with Jumio CEO Robert Prigge suggesting that Kumar will play a key role in driving the company’s growth.
“Bala’s appointment as chief product officer puts us in a great position to evolve our digital identity platform strategy by delivering disruptive, world-changing technology,” he said. “We’re excited to welcome Bala as we continue to make identity proofing the backbone of our KYX Platform and further accelerate the next phase of our growth.”
Jumio launched its KYX Platform in September after having established a strong footing in the booming selfie onboarding space. KYX is aimed at broad compliance with Know Your Customer and similar guidelines, and was recently outfitted with iProov’s Liveness Assurance and Genuine Presence Assurance technology.
For his part, Kumar said joining the company is “an honor”, and noted its recent $150 million funding round as a sign of excitement about the company. “Given Jumio’s long-standing reputation as the leader in AI-based identity verification and its recent landmark funding, I’m excited to join the team to help drive ground-breaking innovation to this emerging space,” he said.
