Trulioo has appointed David Liu as its SVP of Fraud & Risk, the company has announced.
Liu brings extensive professional experience spanning anti-fraud identity tech and the financial services sector. He spent 15 years with American Express, rising from an engineering role to become VP of the company’s Fraud Risk Chargeback & Suspect Claim unit for the Merchant Tools’ department’s Servicing arm. From there, he moved on to Socure, serving as VP of Product from 2020 to 2022.
Trulioo put a spotlight on Liu’s track record in announcing his latest appointment, asserting that during his time with American Express, he contributed to a 65 percent reduction in fraud losses, a 35 percent decrease in false Know Your Customer declines, and a 75 percent drop in false fraud declines.
“We are thrilled to welcome David to Trulioo, where his extensive background in applying cutting-edge technology to combat digital fraud will play a pivotal role in advancing our strategic objectives,” commented Trulioo CTO Hal Lonas. “David’s insights and expertise in fraud and risk, particularly in automated fraud resolution and merchant data exchange, will be invaluable in delivering enhanced services to our global clientele.”
Liu joins the company as it enjoys rising prominence in the fight against fraud. Earlier this year, the Vancouver-based company announced that EQ Bank, a high-profile digital bank, would use Trulioo technology to verify customers’ identities. Trulioo’s tech uses facial recognition to match end users’ selfie photos to images of their official ID, enabling remote IDV, and is backed by liveness detection technology to guard against deepfakes and other presentation attacks.
“Fraud attack vectors never stop evolving, so it’s imperative that organizations fortify their customer base with state-of-the-art technology, onboarding insights and a layered, AI-driven approach to identity verification,” commented Liu.
