FaceTec has named another addition to its executive team. Owen McShane, the former Deputy Commissioner of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, is the company’s new Vice President of Government Relations.
McShane first joined the New York DMV in 1991, as a Motor Vehicle Investigator, and spent the next few decades rising through the ranks of increasingly senior roles investigating auto theft and fraud. In June of 2022, he was named Deputy Commissioner of Investigations and Law Enforcement Support, a position from which he retired this past summer.
“I’ve watched the use of biometrics grow into a powerful tool for our communities,” McShane explained. “During my career, I have had the opportunity to work with motor vehicle, state police, and highway patrol agencies across North America and have watched the many types and complexities of criminal activity evolve.”
Now, he’s joining FaceTec to help the company in its efforts to use sophisticated face biometrics and liveness detection technologies to fight identity fraud, an issue that has been exacerbated during a period of accelerated digital transformation since the pandemic.
“In the post-COVID world, fraudsters are targeting identities at an unprecedented rate, and I believe the use of Liveness-proven biometrics is one of the most effective ways to stop the crime and allow legitimate transactions,” he said.
In his new role, McShane will be responsible for managing important relationships with groups including identity issuing authorities, law enforcement agencies, standards bodies, and businesses that support government work around identity security.
“Owen’s experience on the front lines fighting complex identity theft cases and his work with identity issuers will allow FaceTec to tailor our software to help solve these specific problems in the U.S. and abroad,” said FaceTec CEO Kevin Alan Tussy, adding that McShane will be a key player on a “dream team of biometrics experts”.
That dream team has expanded in recent months, with McShane now complementing other strategic hires. Earlier this year, Geoff Slagle, the former Director of Identity Management for the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators, came aboard as FaceTec’s new Executive Vice President of Digital Identity, shortly after the appointment of Manos Mavrikos as FaceTec’s VP of Global Customer and Partner Success was announced at the start of the year.
More recently, FaceTec announced that Trevor Chaplick, a legal advisor with deep experience in the tech space, was officially joining the team as Chief Legal Officer and Executive Vice President for Corporate Development.
