CoolPad’s Dazen Note 3 mobile device has launched in China and features a fingerprint sensor. Priced at close to $150 USD, it’s one of the cheapest – if not the cheapest – smartphones on the market to include that kind of biometric technology.
Other features of the smartphone include a 5.5″ HD display, 16GB of storage, a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP camera on its front. It offers 3G and 4G support, and it has 2GB of RAM out of the box.
The device is expected to launch soon in India, and CoolPad says that it saw 2.6 million pre-orders for the device in China in only one week, indicating a strong appetite for a budget-priced, technologically sophisticated handset.
That’s good news for the fingerprint sensor industry. With Apple having pioneered mobile fingerprint authentication with the Touch ID system on all its new mobile devices, such technology has spread rapidly among the competition and has filtered down to the lower ends of smartphone spectrum; as The Times of India notes, mid-range devices like the recently launched OnePlus 2 are helping to further popularize biometric technology in the mass market. Now, the Dazen Note 3 is helping to push that trend even deeper down the price range.
