“…Identity Devices will leverage fingerprint and iris scanning technology from Fingerprint Cards through their multi-year partnership.”
Sweden-based Fingerprint Cards (FPC) has teamed up with a compatriot in the biometric authentication space in its latest bid to expand its reach beyond the mobile sector.
Its new partner is Identity Devices, a firm founded by former FIDO Alliance board member David Burnett. It appears to be a relatively new company, with its website’s company news section listing only a press release announcing the FPC partnership; but Identity Devices says it has offices in Sweden, the US, and India, home to the world’s largest biometric national ID program.
As for its offerings, Identity Devices says it offers devices and modules designed to allow third parties to easily integrate biometric authentication mechanisms into their own hardware.
To that end, Identity Devices will leverage fingerprint and iris scanning technology from Fingerprint Cards through their multi-year partnership. In a statement announcing the partnership, Fingerprint Cards explained that its areas of “initial focus” will include “all-in-one pre-certified products with support for biometric authentication protocols such as those from the FIDO Alliance, India’s Aadhaar and others.”
The partnership’s announcement arrives on the heels of Fingerprint Cards’ announcement of two new integrations of its fingerprint sensor technology into smartphones, the latest development in the company’s core line of business.
