FIDO Alliance Welcomes Onfido to its Board of Directors

Onfido has joined the FIDO Alliance Board of Directors, adding another biometrics specialist to the authentication standards body’s leadership.

The company specializes in the increasingly popular field of selfie authentication, offering an authentication solution that leverages facial recognition and document reading to confirm the identities of end users. As such, it’s a natural fit for the FIDO Alliance, whose work revolves around the development and promotion of standards concerning post-password authentication.

As FIDO Alliance Executive Director Brett McDowell explained in a statement announcing Onfido’s Board membership, “Onfido brings innovative identity verification technology and a dedication to security that aligns with the FIDO Alliance’s mission to develop more secure and convenient solutions that reduce the world’s dependence on passwords.”

Commenting on the company’s board-level membership, Onfido’s Director of Policy, Parker Crockford, said, “We’re excited to join the FIDO Alliance board and bring our expertise in identity proofing, biometrics and machine learning to the organization to help establish a more robust, secure way for consumers to be authenticated and for businesses to onboard customers faster.”

The news comes amid an INTERPOL training workshop on ID fraud being led by Onfido in Manila this week, further signalling the company’s rising profile in the global identity field.
