FEITIAN Security Key Gets Official NIST Certification

FEITIAN has passed another major certification milestone. NIST has granted the company’s biometric security key module 140-2 level 2 status, to indicate that the module is compliant with the latest Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS). The FEITIAN offering verifies users with fingerprint recognition, and is the first such module to receive the FIPS 140-2 level 2 distinction.

NIST is the second standards organization to offer its approval for the FEITIAN module. The device cleared the FIDO Alliance’s Biometric Component Certification program earlier this year, making the module one of the most heavily vetted products on the market.

In that regard, the module is compliant with the FIDO U2F, FIDO2, and WebAuthn protocols. It has already been integrated into FEITIAN’s series of biometric security keys to provide organizations with a secure authentication option that meets the industry’s latest regulatory requirements. The module itself features a fingerprint sensor and biometric software from FPC.

For its part, FEITIAN is hoping that the new biometric security key module will help promote passwordless authentication practices, and encourage more businesses and public agencies to make the switch to biometric identity verification. The company announced that its fingerprint-powered security keys were compatible with Microsoft’s Hybrid Azure Active Directory back in February of 2020.
