While IDEMIA as a brand is still young, its roots go deep, perhaps especially when it comes to law enforcement. And so after the company’s formation last year with the merger of Safran Identity & Security and Oberthur Technologies, its leadership have taken measures to ensure that the company retains its focus on the law enforcement sector. An important part of those efforts was the appointment of Donnie Scott as IDEMIA’s head of Public Security for North America.
FindBiometrics Managing Editor Peter Counter had the opportunity to catch up with Donnie at this year’s FedID 2018 conference in Tampa, resulting in a wide-ranging and frank conversation. Starting with Donnie’s emphasis on the importance of law enforcement in driving the biometrics market for several decades, the discussion went on to the importance of events like FedID for candid discourse among industry players and government officials, the emergence of newer technologies associated with cloud computing, blockchain, and AI, and how the consumer sector has influenced the public security security, including the impact of Apple’s Face ID system – both on IDEMIA and Donnie’s young son.
