Hyundai Motor Group has launched its DAL-e Delivery and Parking robots, integrating facial recognition technology for use in smart office buildings.
The DAL-e Delivery robot, developed by Robotics LAB, uses AI technology to improve delivery efficiency within buildings. Its facial recognition system boasts a 99.9 percent accuracy rate, and enables the robot to autonomously navigate complex environments and deliver beverages by accurately identifying and verifying the faces of recipients.
Upon recognizing a registered recipient, the robot ensures the delivery reaches the correct individual. The robot’s navigation and interaction capabilities are enhanced by its ability to process and respond to facial recognition data in real-time, ensuring an efficient delivery process within office buildings.
Similarly, Hyundai WIA’s Parking Robot uses AI and facial recognition technology to enhance parking efficiency by maneuvering vehicles into tight spaces while recognizing and verifying the identity of the vehicle owner. The system significantly maximizes space utilization, especially in areas that pose challenges for human drivers.
Meanwhile, a Smart Parking Control System developed by Hyundai WIA can manage up to 50 parking robots simultaneously, ensuring smooth and efficient operations.
These innovations are part of Hyundai’s broader “Robot Total Solution” development plan, which aims to integrate various robotic and facial recognition systems into smart buildings. The deployment starts at Factorial Seongsu, a smart building owned by IGIS Asset Management, with plans to expand services in the coming months. The Parking Robot will also collaborate with Hyundai Motor and Kia’s Automatic Charging Robot (ACR) to serve electric vehicles (EVs).
Hyundai Motor Group has made significant investments in advanced technology companies. In 2020, the company announced its acquisition of Boston Dynamics, a robotics firm known for developing the legged Spot and Atlas robots. The deal was finalized in 2021, marking Hyundai’s entry into the field of advanced robotics. Hyundai also has a joint venture with Aptiv PLC called Motional AD LLC, which focuses on developing autonomous vehicle technology—a partnership that shows Hyundai’s commitment to advancing self-driving capabilities in the automotive sector.
