FaceTec’s Jay Meier Outlines Vision for Extending Verified Identity Beyond the Airport Security Zone

March 12, 2026

FaceTec Chief Identity Technology Strategist Jay Meier has described a new concept in development that would allow government-verified biometric identity established inside an airport security zone to carry over into commercial settings beyond it, potentially eliminating the need for hotel check-in desks, car rental counters, and other credential-verification touchpoints that travelers encounter after landing.

Speaking on the latest episode of the ID Talk podcast, Meier explained that the concept centers on what he calls a “derived credential” — a biometrically verified identity package established when a traveler passes through airport security that can be extended into partner systems with the traveler’s authorization. “As I’m getting off the jet, I could tell Hilton I’m on my way, and they will authorize my digital key because they already know who I am,” he said. “I don’t even have to go to the front desk and check in. It’s just done.”

Meier noted that the initiative is being developed in collaboration with other companies, though he did not identify them by name. The concept builds on FaceTec’s UR Code technology, which uses cryptographically signed biometric barcodes to bind a person to a credential or record in a way that can be verified without transmitting biometric data to a central server. UR Codes entered pilot phase with state DMVs last year and have more recently been positioned as a solution for the healthcare sector’s identity fraud challenges.

The airport-to-hotel scenario is one piece of a broader strategic shift Meier outlined on the podcast. FaceTec is increasingly focused on what he described as “heavily regulated industries” and critical infrastructure sectors, including healthcare, financial services, aviation, and energy. The company has already established a presence in South American banking markets and is now turning attention to U.S. financial institutions, with Meier set to speak at a financial industry conference in New York next month.

The podcast appearance followed Meier’s participation at the ViVE 2026 healthcare IT conference in Boston, where he said FaceTec attracted interest from large enterprise organizations, including a major cybersecurity vendor. The episode also marks ID Talk’s 200th installment.
