FaceTec’s Chief Identity Technology Strategist Details UR Code Solution for Healthcare Sector

FaceTec has published a new healthcare white paper outlining how digitally signed biometric “UR Codes” could be used to strengthen identity verification across healthcare workflows, targeting persistent issues such as patient matching errors, improper payments, and fraud. The paper positions UR Codes as owner-controlled, cryptographically signed biometric barcodes designed to bind a person to a credential or record in a way that can be verified at the point of care or service delivery.

The publication argues that many healthcare identity systems still rely on demographic matching and possession-based credentials that do not reliably confirm the person presenting them. FaceTec’s proposal centers on pairing QR-style identity presentation with biometric face verification and liveness checks, with the goal of producing auditable verification events that can be applied across patient onboarding, insurance credential use, and high-risk service workflows. The concept builds on the company’s broader UR Code push, which has already moved into pilot phase with state DMVs as FaceTec develops offline-capable, cryptographically anchored identity interactions.

Those themes are the focus of a recent episode of the ID Talk podcast, where FaceTec Chief Identity Technology Strategist Jay Meier joins the conversation to discuss the thinking behind the white paper and the company’s strategy for healthcare adoption. The discussion tracks the paper’s central claim that UR Codes could become a practical identity layer across multiple healthcare touch points, from patient-to-record binding to benefits verification and service confirmation, with downstream impact on fraud controls and operational reliability.

Meier also talks through the partner ecosystem FaceTec sees as necessary for deployment, including healthcare providers, insurers, technology integrators, and public-sector stakeholders. The episode arrives as he prepares to speak at ViVE 2026 in Los Angeles, a major healthcare IT conference where identity assurance, interoperability, and security are expected to be prominent themes. The conversation echoes the broader argument that healthcare is becoming a primary identity battleground, consistent with Meier’s earlier remarks on why healthcare has become the core identity challenge.

The timing also intersects with the industry’s growing focus on higher-assurance biometric threat models beyond simple spoof media, as remote verification systems contend with increasingly sophisticated attack paths. FaceTec has highlighted this shift through Level 4 and 5 results that emphasize resilience against injection attacks, reinforcing the company’s push to connect healthcare identity assurance with independently evaluated liveness and attack resistance.
