FaceTec Officially Launches ZoOm SDK

FaceTec has officially launched the software development kit of its ZoOm 3D facial recognition system.

An SDK for Android and iOS apps, ZoOm uses what is essentially a video selfie for user authentication. By capturing live video with the user’s front-facing camera, the system establishes a 3D biometric map of the user’s face, so that liveness detection is essentially built into the authentication process.

FaceTec says ZoOm only needs 30 frames of the user’s face for authentication, which equates to less than two seconds of video. And according to a statement announcing the ZoOm SDK, the system is able to operate “in all lighting conditions” and has an FAR of 1/+50,000. The platform is also FIDO certified.

“ZoOm detects liveness, is virtually spoof-proof, and can turn the billions of iOS and Android smart devices in use today into biometric authenticators,” said Kevin Alan Tussy, CEO, FaceTec.

The ZoOm SDK is being offered free to nonprofit and educational organizations, and to businesses with less than $10 million in annual revenues, with a monthly fee for larger organizations based on user volumes. The system supports Android v. 4.3 and greater, and iOS 8.3 and up.
