Suprema Announces Executive Changes, Celebrates FaceStation Success

Suprema announced a series of executive changes at its Partner Summit on February 3. James Lee is stepping up as the new company chairman, while Hanchul Kim will be taking over as the new head of the BioStar division and Seongbin Choi will lead BioStar R&D.

Both Kim and Choi are internal hires for Suprema. Kim previously served as the company’s Managing Director, while Choi was the head of software research and development. The BioStar 2 platform recently received ISO 27001 and ISO 27701 certification.

Former Chief Strategic Officer Andrew Kim will also be moving to a new position within the company. Kim has been with Suprema since last September, and will now be assuming control of the company’s MOCA Systems affiliate. MOCA is a start-up that focuses on mobile credentialing technology, and is responsible for developing the new Suprema Mobile Access and award-winning Airfob Patch solutions.

In other news, Suprema highlighted the success of its FaceStation F2 Fus i on Multimodal Terminal, which supports both visual and infrared facial recognition. Incoming BioStar head Hanchul Kim boasted that the F2 is the most successful product launch in company history, generating a record number of unit sales in its first three months on the market.

“Thanks to the success of FaceStation F2, Suprema’s sales units of face recognition devices more than doubled in 2020,” said Kim. “With the demand for contactless solutions on the rise, we expect face readers to account for around thirty percent of entire unit sales in 2021.”

Suprema is hoping to leverage its portfolio of AI and object recognition technologies to become a leading provider of cloud-based access control services for the enterprise within the next five years. Potential applications include video surveillance and fire and intrusion alarms. The company also offered partners at the Summit a sneak peak of its X-Station 2 touchscreen-based card reader, which has a QR code module option and will debut in the first half of 2021.
