An important industry award is starting to pay off for Facephi, with the company announcing that it has led to a couple dozen business meetings lined up in the United Kingdom.
The Spain-based biometrics specialist had been named one of four winners in the Tech Rocketship Awards last fall, taking the “Cyber Security” award. Organizes by the UK government’s Department for International Trade, the awards are aimed at identifying promising tech companies from abroad and getting them connected with investors and accelerator programs based in Britain.
Now, Facephi is crediting the program for a roster of 25 meetings and events in its schedule, with the first to take place in Leeds and London. As Facephi EMEA head Enrico Montagnino explained in a statement, the Rocketship Awards proved to be “very useful and interesting, as it gives us the opportunity to present Facephi, especially to the UK public sector, where we have already established contacts.”
It’s a particularly synergistic turn of events in the wake of Facephi’s establishment of a new office in the UK last June. While that office was intended to serve Facephi’s strategic efforts to target business opportunities in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, CEO Javier Mira had explained at the time of its establishment that the UK “is a strategic country” and “a gateway to new markets”.
Facephi expanded upon that thinking in announcing its new engagements stemming from the Tech Rocketship Awards, explaining that the UK is a leader in fostering tech unicorns and VC investment. “This is why Facephi has set up its EMEA subsidiary in London and is already exploring new market niches such as cryptocurrencies, gambling and the digitisation of public administrations, alongside the new opportunities that the mentoring of the Tech Rocketship Awards will provide,” the company said.
Known primarily for its facial recognition technology and its pioneering efforts in selfie-based identity verification, Facephi continues to see considerable momentum in its business efforts. The company recently issued a business update marking its best fiscal year yet, with 2022 having delivered a 69 percent increase in revenues over 2021.
